Yahaya Bello, the immediate former Governor of Kogi State has pleaded not guilty to the 16-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged involvement in an N110 billion fraud.

Edum News reports that the former governor was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

He was declared wanted by the EFCC in April 2024.

He was said to have surrendered to the anti-graft agency on Tuesday.

The EFCC however dismissed the claim, noting that he never surrendered himself but was arrested at about 12 54 p.m on Tuesday and was detained in its Abuja office.

The clarification was made by the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale.

He said, ”We arrested him (Yahaya Bello) at 12.54pm; he did not surrender himself to the commission, three of his lawyers are here with him. Following his arrest, he is having a session with investigators of the commission. He is being detained in our custody and he is going to be arraigned in court accordingly.”
