Illia ‘Golem’ Yefimchyk, known as the world’s “most monstrous bodybuilder,” died at the age of 36 from a heart attack.
He was admitted to a hospital on September 6, fell into a coma, and died on September 11.
The Belarusian man was nicknamed “The Mutant” in bodybuilding circles due to his imposing 6-foot frame and 340-pound weight. Yefimchyk’s wife, Anna, had performed chest compressions while waiting for an ambulance.
“I spent every day with him, hoping he would recover. His heart resumed pumping for two days, but medics informed me that his brain had ceased working,” Anna told local media.
He kept his 25-inch biceps in shape by eating up to 16,500 calories every day, which included over five pounds of steak and more than 100 pieces of sushi spread across seven meals.
Although Yefimchyk never competed in professional bodybuilding events, he documented his training methods online and gained a large following across social media channels.
He boasted excellent lifting numbers, such as a 600-pound bench press, 700-pound deadlift, and 700-pound squat.
His death comes after the demise of British bodybuilder Neil Currey, 34, and Brazilian competitor Antonio Souza, 26.
Currey was discovered dead in September 2023, with his parents blaming it on excessive steroid use, according to the BBC. Souza died of heart arrest on August 3, after finishing in the top three at a competition.
