Thomas Frank, Brentford’s head coach, has disclosed that Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka quit the club due to insufficient playing time.

Before the English transfer window closed, the Nigerian midfielder signed on loan with FC Augsburg in the German Bundesliga.

Even though Onyeka spent three seasons playing in the English top division with Brentford, he was unable to secure a starting position at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Speaking on Onyeka’s departure, Brentford manager Frank said that the Nigerian needed to leave the team in order to fulfill his ambition because he was not content to be a backup option.

“Frank wants to play as a starter every week, and this is an excellent opportunity for him to do so. He has been an important part of our success, and I can’t thank him enough for his contributions in every way,” the Danish manager stated, according to Brentford’s official website.

Brentford’s team is quite small, which could lead to trouble this season. Following Onyeka’s departure, the Bees have less choices in the middle of the park, and with Toney leaving for Saudi Arabia, his replacement, Thiago Rodrigues, is injured and will return in December.

Nonetheless, the club has made a good start to the 2024-25 EPL season, winning two of its first three games. They will face a true league test on Saturday against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
