Tragedy as accident kills minor in Anambra

A girl-child, whose identity is yet to identified has died in a lone accident at Oye-Agu Market, Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state.

JJoyce Alexander, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, verified the information, saying the collision was most likely caused by a failure of the brakes and loss of control.

She added that the crash included a driver, Eze Uchechukwu, driving a commercial Toyota Sienna with the registration number NEN588YX owned by the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS).

According to her, the Toyota Sienna driver failed a brake, causing a crash in Oye-agu market, resulting in seven people being injured, and the child dead.

The injured were said to have been taken to Urban Hospital and Maternity, while the dead child was deposited at the morgue.

Her words: “According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Toyota Sienna failed brake, rammed into Oye-agu market and crashed into traders.

“A total of seven people comprising a male adult, three female adults, and three female children were involved in the crash.

“One female child was killed.One male adult, three female adults and 2 female children sustained some degree of injuries.

“Before the arrival of FRSC personnel, the injured victims had been taken to Urban Hospital and Maternity for medical attention, while the dead victim was deposited at the morgue.

“The FRSC team visited the hospital where the victims were taken to for medical attention to ascertain the condition of the injured victims,”

She also expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased and asked drivers to maintain their cars on a regular basis and follow safety regulations.

She equally advised market vendors to stop selling by the road side and implored drivers to drive safely.
