President Bola Tinubu has emphasized his administration’s efforts to address the country’s social and economic concerns.
The president made the statement on Sunday in Lagos during the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference.
This comes as Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO, advocated for a new social compact in Nigeria in which certain economic policies are sacred and must not be altered or changed as regimes change.
Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, outlined some of the steps and policies being implemented by his administration to solve economic difficulties, stating that the collapse of various exchange regimes has helped to reduce corruption.
While responding to Okonjo-Iweala’s speech on the need for a new social contract between the government and the people, the president stated,
“Fellow Nigerians, it is appropriate to refer to the recent landmark position of the Supreme Court granting financial autonomy to Nigeria’s local government councils.
“Expectedly, this will spur the much-desired developments at the grassroots level, while I remain confident that more of such strategic and reform-oriented legal Interventions will be achieved”.
