Janne Andersson, an experienced Swedish coach, has stated that he is in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about the vacant Super Eagles coaching position, but highlighted that nothing is settled yet.
The Swedish coach, has been available after stepping down as Sweden’s coach in November 2023 after the team failed to qualify for the 2024 European Championship.
Following Nigeria’s dismal performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, Super Eagles coach Finidi George resigned, leaving the team without a permanent manager.
In their reaction, the NFF Executive Committee made the decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser to the Super Eagles in advance of the remaining 2026 World Cup qualifying matches as well as the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
However, he stated earlier this week that no appointment has been made, despite reports connecting Andersson to the Super Eagles position.
Andersson discussing with the Swedish daily Expresses, confirmed having an ongoing dialogue with the Nigeria Football Federation and the unpredictable nature of future developments.
In his words: “It’s a huge footballing nation. I can confirm that I have had a dialogue with the Nigeria Football Federation.
“It’s a huge footballing nation, so I’m extremely flattered to be in the running to be their next national team coach.
“Dialogue is ongoing, and I don’t really want to say more than that. I have been in this industry for so long and know that things can happen in different ways. So we’ll see what happens in the future”.
