The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have postponed their meeting previously slated for Monday, the 26th of August 2024, Edum News reports.
The President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed this according to Channels Television on Monday.
The Minister of Education, has on Friday, announced that a meeting between FG and ASUU, would hold on Monday, but that is no longer the case.
The meeting has been rescheduled and will now take place on Wednesday, although no reason was given for the change of date.
Recall that last Tuesday, ASUU issued a strike notice to the federal government following a National Executive Committee meeting held on Monday, August 19, at the University of Ibadan.
Among the issues the union has been pressing for are emergency revitalisation fund of public universities; payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions from members.
The other issues include stoppage of illegal recruitments; proliferation of public universities/abuse of universities’ laws, regulations, and processes; and removal of universities from the treasury single account, among others.
