Dr Titus Zam, the Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District has condemned the persistent attacks and killings of people in Benue, especially in the Gwer-West Local Government Area, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The senator in a statement on Tuesday called on president Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia to intervene urgently to end the killings.
He said this while reacting to last week’s attack along the Makurdi-Naka Road, which claimed the lives of many persons.
In the statement, the senator expressed shock over what he termed deliberate and unprovoked attacks on the people of Gwer-West and Benue in general.
“Despite our rigorous efforts, the killings persist. I condemn these deliberate and unprovoked attacks, particularly the most recent along the Makurdi-Naka Road.
“The open grazing prohibition and ranching establishment bill, which I presented before the Senate, is key to ending these killings.”The statement added
He extended his condolences to the affected communities and called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to protect residents, especially vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.
According to Multiple sources, not less than 500 residents of Gwer-West have been killed by suspected herdsmen attacks since 2011.
