The Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), which includes nearly 50 youth groups from 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, saying he’s a threat to democracy.
Wike’s statement on August 31, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he threatened to spark a problem in PDP-controlled states, as PDP governors are likely to identify with one of them in the Rivers State political issue.
The group saw Wike’s words as terrible and dangerous, advocating for anarchy, a threat to democracy, and an invitation to trouble that may undo democratic successes and jeopardize national cohesion, unity, and progress.
According to the statement headlined “ARREST NYESOM WIKE NOW,” the group also requested Wike’s immediate arrest.
The statement reads: “The Northern Youth are concerned with the silence and inaction of the Federal Government and the Security Agencies, who have turned a deaf ear and blind eye to these inimical, ruthless, arrogant, proud, boastful, and irresponsible utterances of Barr. Wike, which are capable of scuttling and destroying the trust and confidence we have in this administration.
“We demand that the Federal Government direct the Security Agencies to arrest Barr. Wike and have him sign an undertaking that he will not in any way initiate or carry out his threat and that he will be held responsible for any crisis in the PDP-controlled states.
“Otherwise, we will invariably believe that the Federal Government is complicit and is also backing Wike to cause crises in these states as he is currently doing in Rivers State,” NYLF said.
The group further urged the PDP to suspend the FCT Minister and asked that Wike be removed from the Federal Executive Council.
They implored the party to impose an indefinite suspension on Wike and forbid him from participating in any party function.
