The Nigerian Army said it has detained the soldier who killed 16-year-old Ismail Mohammed in Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State, while attempting to impose a curfew.

Edumnews gathered that the soldier mistakenly killed the teenager when he fired the bullet with the intention to scare hoodlums who were not adhering to the curfew.

This was after Nigerian Army received a distressed call concerning thugs assembling in huge groups, setting tires on fire and throwing stones at security personnel.

The Army in response sent few soldiers quickly to disperse the mob and impose the curfew.

However, a soldier fired the shot as a warning to scare the hoodlums away, which led to the death of Ismail Mohammed.

Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, led a high-level delegation to pay tribute to the dead and express condolences to his family.

The deceased is said to have been buried according to Islamic customs, with senior military leaders from the Nigerian army present.
