Protest organizers call for sack of IG

Organizers of the ongoing nationwide protest in Nigeria, have called for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Edumnews reports. 

The committee made this call while speaking during a candlelight symposium held in honour of the victims at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Friday.

They stated that the call is in response to the killing of protesters in the ongoing protest to end bad governance in the country. 

Recall that the Nationwide planned protest commenced on the 1st of August and is currently in its 9th day.

The protest was scheduled to run for ten days. 

The committee, based at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos, had also declared three-day mourning for the slain protesters.

At the candlelight symposium, a member of the committee and National Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, Comrade Hassan Taiwo, emphasised the urgency of sacking the IGP, stating that more than 40 people have lost their lives nationwide. 

“We are demanding the sacking of the Inspector General of Police,” he stated. 

The Committee of Defence of Human Rights, CDHR candlelight procession is also  expected to commence in Alausa after the symposium.
