Police rescue kidnapped sports journalists in Anambra

The Joint security operatives have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo along Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala.

The journalists, who were traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover Nigeria vs Libya African Cup of Nations qualifying match, were abducted on Wednesday while travelling through the Isseke-Orlu Road.

Confirming the rescue on Thursday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, said joint security forces had successfully rescued six of the journalists, while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the seventh member of the crew.

“Joint security forces have rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo,” Ikenga said in a statement on Thursday.

He assured all that operations are still ongoing to rescue the last journalist and bring the perpetrators to justice.
