Police Promotes CP Who Oversaw Farotimi's Arrest To AIG

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State who oversaw the arrest of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG).

Adeniran was promoted on Tuesday
to the rank of AIG of Police.

Edum News reports that his promotion is following the successful arrest and detention of Farotimi on December 2, 2024.

Recall that Farotimi released a book titled Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System on the 2nd of July, 2024.

However, months after the release of the116-page book, Afe Babalola, a senior lawyer in the Nigerian legal circle, accused Farotimi of defamation.

The human rights lawyer was subsequently arrested at his Lagos office by a group of policemen attached to the Ekiti State Police Command from where he was transported to Ekiti.

Asides from the defamation charges brought against Farotimi at an Ekiti State Magistrate Court by Babalola’s team, Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), also filed 12 additional charges against Farotimi at an Ekiti Federal High Court on December 6.
