The contractor in charge of the Umuahia mega bus terminal project has been directed by Abia State Governor Alex Otti to widen the roads surrounding the terminal to facilitate convenient vehicle movement.
During an inspection visit to the project site on Sunday, the governor expressed pleasure with the ongoing building activity at the site.
He made note of the places where the contractor needed to make a few little alterations.
He said, “I think the contractors are doing very well. They have been known to perform very well. They are working according to the Schedule.
“But then, there are a few areas that I observed that they have to go back and make some adjustments. We needed the roads to be wider than they are with the junction improvement and the traffic lights. So, I have asked them to stop around the Cooperative roundabout so that we can take a look at it again.
“But, so far, so good. I am impressed with the quality of work”, Otti stated.
Otti explained some of the features and goals of the Transport Terminal, stating that exactly the same thing is being recreated in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, as it was done in Oshodi, Lagos State.
“We want to replicate exactly what they did in Oshodi here,” he said.
This is where the busses and the train will end. Retail stores, lodging facilities, a place for people to get together and have fun, and a playground for kids-all of this will be present.
The proposal, according to the governor, will help organize the capital city extremely well and put a stop to the abundance of parks scattered around.
He continued by saying that since there are spaces set aside for hotels, shopping centers, parks, etc., many enterprises will relocate there.
Otti went on to say that while the initiative might not make money right away, it will eventually make a lot of money.
He pointed out that maintaining the Capital City’s traditional capital appearance is crucial.
