Dr Ayodele Olorunfemi, the Labour Party candidate for the next Ondo Governorship election, has promised to combat corruption in public offices if elected.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos, Olorunfemi promised that “no corrupt person will escape our system.”

He also indicated that his administration would have a zero tolerance approach for waste of public cash.

The LP candidate stated that corruption and bribery had denied the masses the benefits of democracy.

Olorunfemi emphasized that winning the fight against corruption is critical for the party to carry out its comprehensive transformation plan and offer happiness to the state’s citizens.

“Corruption is what has made life difficult for the majority. It is the source of poverty in our country, as well as public dissatisfaction with politicians. “We must remove corruption in government agencies, procurement, and contract expenses.

“In our government, there will be no room for corruption; state resources are sufficient to create the happiness everyone is yearning for,” she said.

He claimed that if elected, he will follow all essential rules and procedures to combat state corruption.

The LP candidate promised to implement a strong accountability system, increase openness in the procurement process, and reduce bribery in public offices through the effective use of technology.

“We will put systems in place to do this since corruption has widened the divide between the rich and the poor. No corrupt person will escape our system,” he said.

Olorunfemi mentioned Governor Alex Otti of Abia, the country’s first LP governor, as an example of success due to a zero-tolerance approach against corruption.

“The governor (Otti) is determined to get things done and spend government funds for the people, not for himself and his cronies; that is what we intend to accomplish in Ondo if elected. Government money is going to be spent for the people”.

According to NAN, 17 political parties have fielded candidates for Ondo State’s off-cycle governorship election, which is slated for November 16th by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
