Olanrewaju Kayode, a Super Eagles striker, overcame marital disappointment to score his first goal for new club Sanliurfaspor in a 3-1 loss to Fatih Karagumruk in the Turkish 1. Lig on Monday.

Kayode, who terminated his contract with Turkish club Sivasspor to attend to his marital issues, put his team in front on 26 only for the visitors to rally back to secure the maximum points in the Game Week 6 fixture at Şanlıurfa 11 Nisan Stadium.

The 31-year-old, who played for Genclerbirligi in Turkey’s second tier last season, was replaced in the 80th minute of the match, his third start in as many outings.

Kayode represented Nigeria U-17 at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, received his first call-up to the Nigeria U20 team for the African Youth Championship qualifiers in Libya the following year, was called up for the African Youth Championship in South Africa in 2011, and made his senior team debut in a 1-1 draw with Senegal in 2017.

He has not scored a goal in four appearances for the Super Eagles.
