Ogun State Housing Corporation (OGSHC) has given a seven-day warning to illegal occupants of its housing estates around the state to evacuate and remove their structures and constructions.

Wale Ojo, General Manager of the Corporation, stated during a development control and enforcement exercise at Idiroko Housing Estate in Ipokia Local Government Area, adding that the notice was in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the Ogun State Housing Corporation Law 2006.

Ojo stated that the exercise’s goal was to identify unapproved developments that were not in compliance with the approved plan, and those that were being used inappropriately, as well as to ensure that developments were well positioned as designed on the layout after the process had expired.

He issued a warning, saying that disregarding the Corporation’s directives would result in the buildings being demolished and those who lived there facing legal action and having to foot the bill for demolishing their unlawful structures.

In her contribution, Bunmi Oladeinde-Oluwakemi, Director of Survey for the Corporation, stated that counting illegal houses and identifying structures that did not meet the Corporation’s standards was part of the agency’s core mandate.

She also mentioned that documents or complaints from occupants would be taken into consideration prior to the start of demolition.

She further urged citizens to always get advice from the proper governmental authorities before purchasing landed property.

Speaking on behalf of the estates’ residents, Babatunde Taiwo, Chairman of the Ifeloju Community Development Association, Idiroko Ikolaje, agreed to follow the corporation’s directive while begging for a notice extension.
