The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State has issued a three-week ultimatum to Governor Abdullahi Sule, demanding the immediate implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers and the payment of a backlog of workers’ entitlements, amounting to around N250 million.

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting between labour leaders and workers in the state.

“We are giving the Nasarawa State government until the end of August to start paying the new national minimum wage and other entitlements of workers in the state in order to avert an indefinite strike,” Okoh declared.

The speaker expressed that Nasarawa State’s civil servants had made noteworthy contributions to the state’s progress and asked the government to take prompt action to improve the well-being of its workforce.

Okah threatened to call for a statewide strike that could seriously disrupt essential services if demands are not met.

In his reaction, Abigail Waya, the Head of Civil Service in the state, acknowledged that the government has not yet finalized plans for the implementation of the new minimum wage, but reassured workers about their commitment to welfare improvement.
