Former Real Madrid Manager, Fabio Capello has urged Atalanta to hold onto Super Eagles attacker, Ademola Lookman so that the club can be watched out for in the Serie A competition.

Although Atlanta BC has never won the Scudetto, the Black and Blues are presently experiencing one of their most prosperous eras in team history.

Atalanta, under the leadership of brilliant tactician Gian Piero Gasperini, won their first European championship in May after defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final where the Nigerian player scored an incredible hat-trick.

The winger, who was previously with Leicester City and RB Leipzig, also scored 18 goals last season in Serie A (11 goals and 8 assists), helping the team place fourth and earn a trip to the UEFA Champions League.

Several of the top teams in Europe have reportedly expressed interest in the 26-year-old due to his outstanding achievements; PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are among them.

Though Lookman is a forward from Nigeria, Atalanta has not yet received a
firm offer for him, and it appears that he will stay in Bergamo for the 2024–2025 campaign.

Capello thinks he has the key to a successful league campaign for Gasperini’s team if Atalanta can persuade Lookman to reject the overtures of interested parties.

“I appreciated Atalanta’s moves, particularly the addition of Bellanova, who was a fantastic signing. “And if Lookman stays, watch out for Gasp (Gasperini),” Capello warned La Gazzetta dello Sport, according to Calcio Atalanta.

Meanwhile, Atalanta opened their Serie A season with a 4-0 victory against Lecce, but fell on matchday two, losing 2-1 to Torino.
