Randy Waldrum has resigned as the head coach of Nigeria’s female football team, Super Falcons, Edum News reports.

In a letter dated September 12th, Waldrum cited health issues with his wife as the reason he’s resigning from the job.

He stated that it has been difficult following the Olympics, as a result of his wife’s ill health and the worries that come with it.

He noted that his resignation is not out of the blues, as he has given it a lot of thoughts and consideration, and considers it the best decision for now.

The 67 year old American tactician, also stated that this will avail the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, enough time, to b able to find a new coach and manager for the Super Falcons.

The statement reads in part, “It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”

The American former professional soccer player, is current head coach of University of Pittsburgh Panthers women’s soccer team.

In October 2017, Waldrum was appointed to be technical adviser and head coach of the Nigeria women’s national team, and was expected to take charge of the team ahead of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification tournament.

However, he turned down the role and was not appointed coach.

On October 5, 2020, Waldrum was appointed the head coach of Nigeria women’s national team, barely three years after turning down the role.
