Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s captain, has remarked about his latest football milestone.

The former Manchester United star made a significant claim after scoring the 900th goal of his career in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in Lisbon on Thursday.

The 39-year-old scored from close range after Nuno Mendes’ excellent cross. After Diogo Dalot’s seventh-minute opener, Ronaldo ended his five-game scoreless drought for Portugal.

With that strike, Ronaldo became the first player to net 900 career goals with Lionel Messi as the only player behind him, who is currently on 838 goals for club and country.

After the match against Croatia, Cristiano Ronaldo stated (via Fabrizio Romano): “900 goals seems like any other milestone, but only I know how hard it is to work every day to score your 900th goal.”

Also his former club Real Madrid congratulated him in a tweet that read (as translated from Spanish), “Another historic milestone: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football.

“Congratulations, dear and admired @Cristiano! Real Madrid and the Madrid fans are always proud of you.”

Ronaldo was at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2009 and 2018.
