A group of half-naked women in Akoko, Ondo State, organized a peaceful protest to condemn violent killings by suspected herdsmen.

The group made up of majorly old women marched partially clothed through the streets, expressing their distress over frequent killings, kidnappings, and destruction of their farmlands.

Rumor has it that the demonstration was after Sunday Ayeni, a farmer, was brutally killed on his property after he got into a fight with herdsmen.

A search team found Ayeni’s body and his hunting dog over the weekend and as a result of the incident, farmers were forced to abandon their farms out of concern of further attacks.

The women demanded justice for the victims of the ongoing attacks during a security meeting in the palace of Oka’s Olubaka, Adebori Adeleye.

According to the group’s spokeswoman, Mrs. Abigail Ojo, some of the members were raped on their farms by suspected herders, and their crops were destroyed.

Mrs Ojo claimed that they had given up on their farms and were resolved not to come back until they were adequately protected.

She further said, “We cannot tolerate these senseless killings any longer. All of this has to stop.”

She asked security agencies for help in finding a permanent solution to their predicament

In his response, Mr Adeleye the traditional ruler, stated that the community’s security situation was being addressed by the appropriate security services.
