Getafe President, Angel Torres has criticized his player Christantus Uche after the Nigerian midfielder complained about racism and referee treatment in La Liga.

Uche, who joined Getafe from lower-league side Ceuta, had expressed his concerns about racism from fans and inconsistent refereeing decisions, claiming that officials frequently ignored fouls committed against him while quickly blowing the whistle when similar incidents occurred against others.

In an interview with ESPN, the 21-year-old stated that spectators will be “hailing you ‘f****** black,’ you are a ‘black this, that,'” and that the referees are “so bad.”

Torres, on the other hand, criticized Uche’s views, advising the player to wait until he has more experience playing in Spain before speaking out. “He doesn’t understand,” Torres told El Partidazo de COPE.

“How can he tell you this? He can’t tell you that. I believe you should be more correct and appreciative of those things. He’ll be able to say whatever he wants after a year or two of living here and learning Spanish.

“But now… we hope that the corresponding committees understand it as a warning.” When asked about Uche’s criticism of referees, Torres added: “I don’t want to blame or say that the person who interviewed him is the only one to blame, but from now on, what he’ll (Uche) have to is do is not speak.”

Despite the issues raised, Uche remained positive about his opportunity to play in La Liga, calling it a “dream come true” to compete against teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
