Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta manager has commended Ademola Lookman for his strong defensive performance during the team’s 0-0 tie with Arsenal.
The Gunners, who put up a strong show at the back, affected the team. Early in the second half, David Raya Arsenal’s goalkeeper stopped a penalty kick intended for Mateo Retegui.
Atalanta’s aggressive performance demonstrated their intent to win the match even though it ended not so.
Nonetheless, Gasperini praised Lookman and the other attackers for their excellent defensive play, stating that their spirit is evident and he believes that having strong strikers can increase their chances of scoring.
He said: “Well yes, that is our spirit. That doesn’t mean we are not defending, as the defensive work done by Lookman, De Ketelaere and Retegui was admirable.
“If we have our strikers working so hard to help the defence, then we can put a few more forwards on the field and improve our chances of scoring.”
