Sven-Goran Eriksson, a former manager of England has passed away at the age of 76.

When pancreatic cancer first surfaced in 2024, Eriksson’s prognosis was listed as “at best” one year to survive.

In a statement released by his family, Eriksson passed away after a long illness at home, surrounded by family and he is survived by his daughter Lina, son Johan, granddaughter Sky, and Brother Lars-Erik.

It read “Sven-Goran Eriksson has passed away. After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at home surrounded by family.

“The closest mourners are daughter Lina; son Johan with wife Amana and granddaughter Sky; father Sven; girlfriend Yanisette with son Alcides; Brother Lars-Erik with wife Jumnong.

“The family asks for respect for their wish to mourn in private and not be contacted.”

In 2001, the Swedish coach became the first non-native manager of the England men’s football team, mentoring players such as David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard, who were dubbed the “golden generation”.

Eriksson managed a number of prestigious European teams during his tenure, including Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina, Benfica, and Sampdoria.

Following the 2006 World Cup, Eriksson resigned from his position as England’s manager. He went on to manage England’s Manchester City and Leicester City, as well as Mexico and the Ivory Coast.

From teaching physical education in a small Swedish town, he ascended to the pinnacles of English football.

In February 2023, he resigned from his position as sporting director of Swedish club Karlstad due to health concerns.
