FG vows to end illegal mining in Zamfara

The Federal Government has said it is committed to ending illegal mining in Zamfara State as it is linked to the security challenges the state is facing.

Abunumah Samuel, the Mining Officer of the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Resources, Speaking to journalists in Gusau, revealed that the Ministry, in collaboration with security agencies, has developed a strategy to shutdown the activities of both legal and illegal miners in the state.

He informed the public that the government had suspended mining activities in the state since 2019 and individuals or groups that would refuse to comply with the ban would face legal action.

He stated: “The ban affected everybody, including those with licenses to mine. They must wait for further directives from the authorities. Those who refuse to comply with this directive will soon be arrested and brought to book.”
