Arsenal legend David Seaman has slammed Leandro Trossard following the Belgian’s restrained celebration of his goal against Aston Villa.
Seaman explained why Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refuses to put Gabriel Martinelli on the bench in favor of Trossard in the starting lineup.
Trossard and Thomas Partey scored for Arsenal as they defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park over the weekend.
Trossard’s celebration after scoring a goal was fairly subdued, and Arteta disclosed during the match that the Belgian was unhappy about not being included in the starting lineup.
Seaman disagrees with many commentators and Arsenal supporters who feel that Trossard should start before Martinelli.
He believes there is no problem with the team’s balance on the left side, with Martinelli coming on if Trossard starts first and that the right side is only occupied by Buyako Saka, and there will always be competition for places.
On his podcast (via Metro), he said “I don’t see what the problem is. There always will be [competition for places]. Even if it’s the other way around, if he [Trossard] starts first, Martinelli would come on.
“I think we all know that on that [left] side, that’s where we have the balance with Trossard and Martinelli. On the right side, we only have Buyako Saka.”
