Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, has challenged INEC and security agencies with ensuring a free, fair, and credible Edo governorship election on September 21.

Obi made the announcement at the grand finale rally for Olumide Akpata, the LP candidate in the Edo Governorship race in Benin.

Obi stated that the people of the state will not tolerate any attempts by political parties to rig the election, adding that LP would effect the necessary transformation in Edo for the welfare of the people.

” If elected, the Labour Party’s candidate will address federal roads connected to the state without waiting for the federal government to act”.

Obi criticized state governors for frequently deferring tasks to the federal government at the expense of their population, stating that Olumide Akpata would not follow suit.

He urged residents of the state to turn out in huge numbers on September 21 to vote for Akpata and his running mate, Yusuf Kadiri.

Professor Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, also urged LP supporters to use their numerical power to achieve their candidate’s victory.

He also urged party followers to remain firm, vote, and protect their votes, emphasizing that power belongs to the people. Similarly, Sen. Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District, asked party supporters to build on recent triumphs and reproduce them on September 21.

On his part, Akpata implored his supporters to use their votes to force the People’s Democratic Party out of the Edo government house.
