The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo state has extended voting time in regions where the exercise began late.
The Commission’s Chairman, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
He declared that the impacted areas have seen an extension of the exercise and that the Commission is monitoring polls and ensuring no voter disenfranchisement.
According to the reports, rainfall and other logistical issues prevented the poll from starting on time in some sections of the state.
Parts of the statement read.
“Our monitoring indicates early commencement of polls in many Polling Units, but there are also reports of late commencement in some locations.
“To ensure that no voter is disenfranchised, the Commission wishes to reiterate that, in line with our Regulations and Guidelines, voting will be extended wherever it commenced late and will continue until the last voter on the queue who arrived at the Polling Unit by 2:30 pm has voted,”
