Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt.
Mr Okojie, who is also the husband of Mercy Johnson, a popular Nollywood movie star, was reportedly attacked by armed men suspected of being political thugs at his home in Uromi.
Michael Ihaza, Okojie’s communications aide, verified the news in a statement.
According to the statement, the gunmen carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF invaded the lawmaker’s residence with a Lexus GX 470.
Hon. Okojie’s residence was invaded by armed thugs disguised as police officers. They claimed to be on appointment and went to the seating room. Security personnel intervened and two of the thugs fled, leaving behind the driver and another who are being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi.
“The suspects have so far made a confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area,” the statement added.
