Ashton Mutuwa, a Nigerian wrestler based in the United States, has remarked that Nigerian rapper Burna Boy’s music inspires him during difficult times.
Mutuwa revealed this during an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Paris, France.
“Everybody just go crazy when Burna Boy comes on, I love his music, whenever I need a big lift or motivate myself during workout, I listen to him.
“He is my favourite musician” Mutuwa said.
He added that the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Daniel Igali, and his coach, Victor Okorie, have the qualities and experience to favorably influence their athletes.
Mutuwa has visited Nigeria twice, once in January for national tryouts and again in March for a training camp.
He said that his aspiration to represent Nigeria came from one of his best friends, a Serbian, who achieved great success by winning medals and traveling abroad, bringing pride to his country and family.
He also stated that his preferred dishes are jollof rice and Egusi soup, which may be served with a variety of accompaniments.
“He was a world champion in 2023 for Serbia, he was representing his country, making his family proud. I thought it is a good idea to do it for myself” Mutuwa said.
Mutuwa stands as Nigeria’s sole male wrestler at the Olympics and is scheduled to compete on Thursday, August 9, in his inaugural match.
