The Peoples Democratic Party has suspended Senator Dino Melaye for alleged anti-party conduct.
The suspension was decided by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 ward party executive committee following examination of the findings of the disciplinary committee that was formed to look into Melaye’s behaviour, according to a letter from a source on Friday .
Melaye’s suspension seems to have been prompted by actions that were seen harmful to the PDP’s unity and interests.
This is not an exceptional step; the PDP has taken similar action against other members guilty of anti-party conduct.
For example, Peter Babalola, an Osun chieftain, was suspended in August 2024 for alleged anti-party activity and failure to attend party meetings for two years.
In another case, former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom was suspended by the Benue PDP for alleged anti-party activity.
Similarly, the Benue PDP summoned Senator Gabriel Suswam and others for alleged severe misconduct and anti-party activities.
The PDP’s dedication to upholding unity and party discipline is seen in these measures. Melaye’s suspension is still being investigated, so more details are probably to come.
“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party and his continued membership is no longer tenable,” stated the resolution that decided to suspend the senator.
Dino Melaye is thus immediately and permanently suspended from the Peoples Democratic party by the Ward Party Executive Committee.
“The suspension is in accordance with PDP constitution Article 59 (1), which gives the Ward party excos the authority to take disciplinary action against misbehaving members”.
