Four persons have reportedly lost their lives in a boat accident at Dundaye community in Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, Edum News reports.
This was disclosed by the Head, Sokoto Field Operation Office of the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, on Tuesday.
He revealed that the sad incident happened on Sunday evening, adding that the bodies were discovered on Monday.
He stated that a combined rescue team from NEMA, Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local divers had led to the discovery of the bodies.
He added that 19 persons were rescued from the accident, with one person still missing, totalling a sum of 24 persons who were involved in the boat mishap.
He said, ”Based on investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident, but 19 of them have been rescued.
”One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four.
”One person is still missing, but search and rescue is still ongoing”.
He also expressed his gratitude to the state, local governments and members of the community for their support so far towards the success of the rescue operations.
