Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has sympathized with the Niger State government over the unfortunate boat accident that claimed the lives of 42 persons in the State, Edum News reports.
He expressed his condolence to Governor Mohammed Bago and the citizens of Niger State in a statement on Friday, describing the disaster as particularly harrowing.
The former Vice President lamented that the accident occurred during the night, which complicated the already difficult rescue operations.
Atiku also expressed his gratitude to the local authorities and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to rescue the victims and carry out a search for the bodies of those who died.
He stated, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated local authorities and tireless volunteers who rose to the occasion, valiantly engaging in search and rescue efforts throughout the dark hours as first responders.
“In this time of immense sorrow, I share in the grief of the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State as they navigate this unfathomable tragedy.
“To all those receiving treatment, I fervently wish for their swift recovery, while offering prayers for the departed souls that they may find eternal peace.”
