A’Ibom Gov swears in newly-elected LG chairmen

The Governor of Akwa-ibom state, Umo Eno, has sworn in the newly-elected chairmen and vice chairmen for the 31 local government areas of the South-South state.

The swearing-in took place on Monday at the conference hall of the Government House, Uyo, the state capital.

A source reports that the Peoples Democratic Party won 30 chairmanship seats in the election held on Saturday, while the All Progressives Congress won one seat.

The governor while Addressing the new chairmen and vice chairmen at the ceremony, charged them to make the people’s welfare a priority and see their election as a call to service.

He also reminded the new chairmen that their coming into grassroots government at a time of dwindling economic fortunes places a burden on them to turn the situation around for the benefit of the people.

Governor Umo Eno charged them to ensure peace and unity at the grassroots by making the people’s welfare a priority in line with the Arise Agenda of his administration.

He also thanked the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission for their commitment to the conduct of a fair and free election.
