Abia lawmaker, Chris Nkwonta, has defected from the People Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Edum News Reports.
His defection was announced on Wednesday, in a letter read by Abbas Tajudeen the Speaker on the floor of the House of Reps in Abuja.
Nwonta represents the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency Abia of Abia state.
The Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki protested the defection, on the grounds that it was against the Constitution.
Madaki said the a Nwonta can only dump the party that sponsored his election if their was crisis in the party
The speaker however over ruled his point on the basis that their was indeed an intra party crisis currently in the PDP party.
He stated: “The information available to me shows there is a faction.”
