The Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital has granted lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi a N50 million bail.
Edum News reports that court’s decision was disclosed by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, via his X handle on Monday.
In the post, it was revealed that the human rights lawyer needs surety with the like sum.
The post reads, “The first hurdle was crossed. #DeleFarotimi was granted bail of N50 million surety in the like sum with someone with landed property. The case was adjourned to January 29, 2025.”

Recall that Farotimi was last Wednesday remanded in prison custody by the Ado-Ekiti magistrate court following his arrest on 16 counts of criminal defamation.
His trial is following alleged defamation of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola, in his recently published book, titled, ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.’
