Ondo Election: Observer Reveals How Policemen Were Fighting Over ₦100,000

An election observer under the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has revealed that there was widespread vote-buying by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ondo State governorship election, Edum News reports.

The CDD observer also revealed that policemen were seen arguing over money shared by a party stalwart in Ward 005, PU 001, St. Barnabas Primary School, Ifon, in the state.

The policemen reportedly frowned that about 10 of them were given ₦100,000, while only one official from another branch of the armed services allegedly got ₦15,000.

This was made public by the Director of CDD-West Africa, Dr. Dauda Garuba, and Lead of CDD-EAC Observation Mission for the Ondo poll, Prof. Victor Adetula on Saturday.

The report noted that while PDP paid ₦5,000, APC shared ₦10,000 per person in exchange for votes.

The statement partly reads, “CDD observers watching the process in Ward 5, PU 001, located at St. Johns Primary School, Iba Akoko South East spotted APC leaders writing down the names of those who voted for their candidate. Subsequently, a card was given to them, and they were instructed to converge at an agreed location where cash would be disbursed to them.
