The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has urged Nigerians to prioritize mutual understanding and respect, Edum News reports.
The Association’s President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made this call in his message, congratulating Nigerians on celebrating the country’s 64th year of gaining independence.
He noted that prioritizing religious tolerance is a sure way of moving the country forward, adding that the citizens should also engage in peaceful co-existence.
He also emphasised the importance of reflecting on the nation’s journey, celebrating achievements, and recommitting to the ideals of peace and harmony.
His words, “Despite the challenges that have tested our resolve, we continue to demonstrate resilience and a shared commitment to the common good.
“Embrace peaceful coexistence and work collaboratively to build a future marked by mutual respect and understanding.
“We commend the efforts of our security forces in safeguarding our nation. However, we must remain vigilant and continue to support initiatives that promote safety and security for all Nigerians.
“As we celebrate our independence, let us reaffirm our commitment to mutual understanding and mutual respect,” he said, emphasising the importance of valuing religious diversity.”
