Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe has experienced a thigh injury ahead of this weekend’s La Liga rivalry with Atletico, his club revealed on Wednesday.

The French superstar was pulled off during the 3-2 win over Alaves on Tuesday and appeared to be feeling some discomfort.

Mbappe is expected to miss about three weeks due to injury, according to Spanish media.

The Spanish champions released a statement saying, “After tests conducted today by Real Madrid’s medical services, our player Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”

Mbappe scored a stunning goal in the drama at the Santiago Bernabeu with Alaves and has netted five goals this season in seven league outings.

Asked about Mbappe’s condition after the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said: “He’s fine, he’s fine, a little overloaded, he asked me for the change to avoid problems.”

Madrid, a point behind leaders Barcelona ahead of the Catalans’ match on Wednesday against Getafe, visit the Metropolitano stadium on Sunday to face rivals Atletico. Los Blancos have not been beaten in La Liga for 39 games, since a setback at Atletico a year ago.

The striker will also be absent from next week’s Champions League trip to Lille as well as possibly October’s Nations League matches with France against Belgium and Israel. Mbappe, who signed a contract with Real Madrid this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, never looked back after taking a few games to settle into the Spanish capital.

He has seven goals in nine appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, including two goals on his Champions League debut and in the team’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta in August.
