A group of Swiftie supporters announced that they had raised over $40,000 for Kamala Harris’ campaign following Donald Trump’s statement on Twitter expressing his dislike for music sensation, Taylor Swift.

The “Swifties for Kamala” group used the Republican candidate’s Sunday morning post on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” to gather money for his Democratic opponent.

“As soon as we saw the post, we knew this was an opportunity. Our team was ready to go with lyric response ideas and ways to tie in our calls to donate and volunteer,” said Carly Long, a member of the group’s communications team, in a statement.

“We use the memes to catch people’s attention, and then tell them how to turn that emotion into action. Swifties know that haters gonna hate, but we also know we can do more than just shake, shake, shake.”

The superfans campaigning for Kamala Harris are not officially linked with the artist who brings them together. They say they have raised more than $207,000 since beginning their fundraising and awareness activities less than two months ago.

They hosted an inaugural fundraising call a few weeks ago, which drew 27,000 spectators and included appearances by celebrities such as Carole King as well as Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Ed Markey.

Since then, Swift has supported Harris and her campaign mate Tim Walz over Donald Trump, describing the Democrat and current vice president as a “steady-handed, gifted leader.”

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift posted in the minutes following the Harris-Trump debate last week.

In addition to fundraising and phone banking, the Swifties For Kamala outfit says it plans more outreach initiatives, particularly in swing states and on the remaining dates of the blockbuster Eras Tour, which is presently on hiatus. It’s slated to resume in Miami on October 18.

Swifties For Kamala cofounder Irene Kim stated that the group is “proof of the power Swifties have.” “We’re building off our existing fandom culture to make voting and politics accessible.”
