Popular Nigerian singer Shallipopi has urged Nigerian artists to charge according to their worth.
The singer in an interview with News Central TV while addressing the debate over high fees said that the popularity and reach of an artist’s music determines their worth.
While refuting the assumption that Nigerian musicians have priced themselves out of the local market, he emphasized that an artist’s value is linked to their success and that artists who achieve similar streaming as American artists need to receive equivalent compensation.
“It depends on your music and where it has gotten, that is what your price is going to be.
“If your music has gotten the same stream as an American artiste, you should be charging the same way they charge but if is not up to that you cannot overcharge,” he stated.
