Mike Edwards, a former BBNaija star and two-time Nigerian high jump champion, won his professional boxing debut against Jake Cornish at the Dublin Arena.

Edwards participated in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight category, which is run by KSI, a well-known English social media influencer and professional boxer from Nigeria.

Edwards announced his entry into the professional boxing ring and debuted on August 31, 2024, a Saturday. His choice to enter the cruiserweight class is a major departure from his track and field background.

In a statement, Edwards expressed his delight for this new phase, noting, “Breaking News: I am thrilled to announce my arrival into the world of professional boxing! I’m thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division lineup on @MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an exciting debut when I enter the ring to demonstrate my abilities and determination.

Before turning to boxing, Edwards had a successful sports career. Originally competing as a British track and field athlete, he switched allegiance to Nigeria in August 2018. In 2021 and 2022, he won the Nigerian national championships for high jump with a lifetime best of 2.25 meters.

Edwards also advanced to the final of the African Athletics Championships twice, barely missing out on a gold medal in 2022.

He has proved his talent as a finalist at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. As he begins on this new adventure, Edwards’ followers are eagerly anticipating his growth in professional boxing, where he hopes to make a huge impact with his abilities and dedication.
