In a recent interview with NOW, Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that his retirement from international football will be a spontaneous decision, taking everyone by surprise.

The Portuguese star, who recently faced speculation about his future after a goalless UEFA Euros campaign, is still committed to his national team duties under coach Roberto Martinez.

Ronaldo has stated that he plans to retire from football within the next “two or three years,” though he hasn’t finalized when to bring his illustrious career to an end.

Ronaldo, who would turn 40 in 2025, dismissed the thought of teaching and hinted at pursuing opportunities outside of soccer while continuing to build his brand.

Fans are eager about what comes next for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as he prepares for future matches against Al-Nassr and Portugal.

“When I leave the national team, I will not tell anyone; it will be a very spontaneous decision on my part,” Ronaldo remarked in an interview with Portuguese television channel NOW.

“What I want now is to be able to help the national team,” he said, expressing his desire to continue playing for Portugal as they prepare for their forthcoming Nations League matches under coach Roberto Martinez.

Ronaldo also dismissed the thought of becoming a coach after his playing days were done. “At the moment, I’m not thinking about coaching the first team or any team. It doesn’t even cross my head; I’ve never considered it.

“I don’t see my future going through that,” Ronaldo said, emphasizing that his post-retirement intentions do not include remaining in the football world in a managerial capacity.

Instead, Ronaldo hinted at exploring other interests outside of soccer. He has already made great progress in developing his brand and increasing his business interests, such as starting a YouTube channel that gained over 16 million followers in 24 hours last week.

“I see myself doing other things outside of football, but only God knows what the future holds,” piqued the interest of supporters who are interested in learning more about what lies ahead for him.

For the time being, Ronaldo is still focused on his current obligations, which include forthcoming games with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League and maybe playing for Portugal on September 5 against Croatia in the Nations League opening.
