Khadija Shaw has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association’s women’s player of the year.

With 21 goals in 18 games, Manchester City forward Shaw, 27, was the Women’s Super-League’s leading scorer in 2023–2024.

The Jamaican international’s season was cut short by injury, and City finished the league season behind Chelsea on a goal difference.

Shaw, who won the PFA award for the first time, was already the 2023–24 WSL player of the year. At the Women’s Football Awards, she was also named player of the year.

She said: “I am both happy and proud to have received this award – to be recognised in such a way by my peers is a very special honour.

“I also want to thank my team-mates and the entire coaching staff because without them this would not be possible.

“I’d also like to congratulate all my fellow nominees who are such amazing players. To have been voted the player of the year means a lot.”

She defeated Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa, two teammates from City, as well as James, last year’s champion, was also nominated after leading Chelsea to victory in the Women’s Super League with 13 goals in 16 matches.

Khiara Keating of Manchester City, Aggie Beever-Jones of Chelsea, Maya Le Tissier of Manchester United, and Jess Park of Manchester City were also nominated.
