Edo Guber: Obaseki accepts SSG’s resignation

Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor, has accepted the resignation of Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the State Government, and nominated Joseph Eboigbe as the new SSG.

Ogie resigned on August 9, 2024, to pursue his political ambition. He is the running mate of Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, in the state’s September 21 election.

Ogie stated that his resignation is in accordance with electoral law, which requires political appointees who choose to contest elections to resign 30 days before the election.

Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Project, said in a statement on Monday,

“The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has accepted the resignation of the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, who, in accordance with existing laws, has stepped down from his position to pursue his ambition to run as Edo State’s Deputy Governor.

“The governor expresses gratitude to Ogie for his dedication to the idea of creating a dynamic and successful state that his government has championed over the past seven years. “Governor Obaseki wishes Ogie the best in his aspirations and trusts that he will
bring his wealth of experience to bear in pursuing his quest to serve the Edo people.”

According to the announcement, the governor has also accepted Joseph Eboigbe’s nomination as the new Secretary to the State Government. The appointment has immediate effect.

“Eboigbe previously served as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, and later as Commissioner of Finance. He takes over as Secretary to the State Government, running the final lap and carrying out the Governor’s Finishing Strong program.

“Eboigbe, a professional accountant, spent 15 years with Deloitte before entering public service. He earned an MSc in Leadership and Strategy from the London Business School”.
