The Benin City Archdiocese’s Emeritus Archbishop, Patrick Ebosele Ekpu, has died at the age of 92.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin, Rev Fr Michael Oyanoafoh, and disclosed by the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Most Reverend Augustine Obiora Akubeze.
The Reverend disclosed that Archbishop Ekpu passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 7:09 p.m. at the age of 92 following a brief illness, while also promised to reveal the specifics of his funeral plans at a later time.
The late Benin City Archdiocese Emeritus Archbishop was born in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, Edo State, in 1931.
On July 7, 1963, he received his priesthood, and on July 5, 1973, he was appointed bishop of Benin City.
He was named Archbishop of Benin City, Nigeria, on March 26, 1994, until his retirement on November 21, 2006.
