Jigawa Police arrests 82 protesters over looting, others

The Jigawa State Police Command, has arrested 82 Suspects for looting and vandalising public property during the nationwide protests in the state, Edum News reports.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He stated that the suspects were arrested on Saturday and Monday, adding that several of the looted items were also recovered from about 212 suspects.

According to him, the items recovered include, 303 bags of fertilizer, 50 motorcycles, three tricycles, 12 bicycles, nine chairs, 54 cartons of mosquito net, two bags of rice, and office furniture, among others.

He noted that 37 of the 212 suspects were detained on Saturday for alleged involvement in vandalism and destruction of property.

He stated, “Other items recovered also included four televisions, three desktop computers, 34 sachets of agrochemicals, rice, a water pump, solar panels, and 10 office chairs.

“These items were recovered during the command’s Saturday operations in Kazaure, Babura, and Gagarawa Local Government Areas.

“No fewer than 195 of the suspects have so been charged to court”.
