Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the 2022 world champion and world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, failed to advance to the final of the event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday.

The 27-year-old, who started in the sixth lane, finished third with a timing of 12.55 seconds in the event’s Heat 1 on Friday.

However, Amusan’s chances were hampered by the following qualification of Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent (12.44s) and France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela (12.52s) in Heat 3.

On Wednesday, Amusan topped the group of eight competitors with 12.49 seconds, followed by Alaysha Johnson of America in 12.61 seconds and Janeek Brown of Jamaica in 12.84.

Despite being one of the favourites for Team Nigeria to win a gold medal at the Olympics, her recent performance is only the latest in a string of dismal performances for Nigeria.

Her mark of 12.55s placed her ninth, only one position behind the top eight who advanced to Saturday’s final.
