Abba Yusuf, the Kano State Governor has issued a 24-hour curfew in response to protesters looting government facilities and private establishments.

The curfew, according to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, will begin with immediate effect.

Bature explained that the decision to impose restrictions on movement was reached during an emergency State Security Council meeting intended to handle the increasing disturbances and violence that accompanied the state’s #EndBadGovernance protest.

The governor also noted that the curfew became necessary because while most protesters respectfully expressed their concerns, thugs and hoodlums took over the demonstration and used it as an opportunity to commit widespread looting, property destruction, and violence against defenseless civilians.

He said, “While the majority of demonstrators politely voiced their concerns, the governor said that thugs and hoodlums grabbed control of the event and exploited it as an opportunity to carry out widespread looting, damage property, and inflict violence on helpless residents.”
